Many varieties of CBD flowers exist with a THC content of less than 0.3%. All varieties are legal in France if they strictly respect this level: the THC molecule has been reduced so that the cannabinoid CBD is increased. Each flower has its own aroma, flavor, texture or property.
We present a few types of flowers, their properties and how to use them.
CBD flowers are derived from hemp, a plant widely used in industry for clothing, construction, stationery, cosmetics, etc.
Hemp has both male and female plants. The female plants produce the flowers, which are then harvested. Once they have reached maturity, they are picked, cleaned and marketed. Strict controls are carried out to ensure that the product complies with the standards required by France's Public Health Code. These controls guarantee the THC content of the flowers to be below 0.3%, and are based on the provisions of the law. These flowers are therefore quite different from the cannabis flowers prohibited on the market due to their high THC content, a substance which alters the mind of the consumer.
CBD flowers contain only cannabidiolwhich does not alter the mind, and is purely soothing, not addictive. CBD flowers have been credited with a number of properties, including stress relief, improved sleep and pain relief.
We'll look at each property according to flower type below.
CBD flowers are grown using several methods: indoor, outdoor or under glass.
So-called indoor are grown indoors and are generally highly prized and of superior quality. Indoor cultivation stimulates the growth of the plant, which is less exposed to pests and protected from the elements, so its CBD content is more concentrated.
Flowers grown outdoors (outdoor) are unprotected and therefore more fragile. More exposed to the elements, their quality is sometimes lower, but they have character and are more "rustic", drawing their nutrients directly from the earth.
Finally, flowers grown under glass (sometimes called green houses) benefit from a climate that is highly conducive to growth, a kind of extremely favorable micro-climate. Protected from the elements, they receive external nutrients and are of excellent quality.
Two types of plants, subspecies of hemp, are mainly used: sativa and indica. They differ in origin, appearance, development, quality and effect.
The indica is a mountain plant that grows at high altitude in India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Resembling a bush, its flowers are highly prized for their relaxing effects and high CBD content.
The plant sativa, comes from the tropical regions of Africa and Asia.
The plant sativa plant is always larger than theindica sometimes reaching 1.90 metres when theindica doesn't exceed 90 centimetres. But its flowers are less abundant and more energizing.
Each plant has its own unique properties, taste and flavour. Each variety has a specific CBD content: high or low.
There are so many varieties of flowers that it can be hard to find your way around. Some are very well known, others a little less so.
There are several ways to consume CBD flowers, depending on your tastes and the flavors you want to emerge.
But under no circumstances are CBD flowers intended to be smoked: combustion reduces the effects of CBD, and mixing with tobacco can lead to a risk of addiction similar to that of a smoker, as well as health consequences.
Consumers are urged to consume responsibly, and not to mix CBD with other substances to avoid exceeding the THC level required by French law. Your consumption must be responsible if it is to be serene. It's also advisable to keep your packaging and instructions for use with you in case of a police check (link to article on saliva testing). Law enforcement officers are sometimes still unable to distinguish between CBD flower, which is legal in France if its THC content is below 0.3%, and cannabis, which is not. This is also the case in the rest of Europe. If you have to travel to another country, don't forget to keep abreast of European legislation.
Vaporization to release all the flavours
Using a quality vaporizer, vaporization is a method that offers the best bioavailability, the speed at which the active ingredient of a molecule passes into the body. It allows you to take full advantage of the product's components, and its effects will be felt quickly. For perfect vaporization, the flowers need to be heated, without burning, to between 160 and 220°C, depending on how wet or dry they are. Consumers then inhale the cannabinoids through their vaporization.
Infusion
You can prepare herbal teas by infusing CBD flowers: boil the water, place the ingredients (honey, vanilla, spices...) and flowers in a tea ball and wait around 15 minutes for the cannabinoids to be released. Then enjoy your drink as you would any other beverage. This type of preparation requires particular attention in terms of dosage, and you need to be careful not to overdose and see how your body reacts.
Culinary preparations
CBD is a totally edible molecule, easily digested and therefore suitable for cooking, whether in flower or oil form. CBD should not be overcooked to avoid altering its flavors or effects, and it is essential that it be dissolved in a fat (oil, honey, milk, etc.) and not heated above 180°C. CBD flowers can be included in culinary preparations such as salads, pastries, smoothies or flavored dishes. The effects will obviously be slower, as digestion time is needed.
In conclusion, CBD flowers are used for their benefits in reducing stress, anxiety and pain. They naturally improve sleep quality, and should be chosen according to their effects and qualities. Depending on what the consumer is looking for, the choice will not be the same. You'll need to pay close attention to the cultivation method, ensure the quality of the flower and choose an appropriate method of consumption to reap the full benefits of the plant.
